As required by the Club’s Articles of Association, we are due to gather soon for our Annual General Meeting (AGM). This yearly rite of spring not only offers members the chance to discuss the many issues facing the Club, but will also be the setting for the election of a new slate of FCCC leaders.
This year’s celebration of civil society and rule-of-law will be held on the evening of Tuesday, May 11 at the Italian Cultural Center, and your attendance is important. So please: mark your calendar now and do your best to attend. For one thing, Club rules require a quorum of Correspondent Members in order to conduct the necessary business. For another, the Club’s continued vitality requires the broad-based input and participation of its members. Plus there will be free beer. And free food too. This is, after all, civil society with journalistic characteristics.
Beyond simply attending, you might also consider running for a Board position. Nominations are now open for the 2010-2011 FCCC Board. Correspondent members ARE allowed to nominate themselves, and may run for any of these positions:
- General board member (5 positions)
There is also one Associate Member slot on the Board, for which Associate members, including Media Associates, are eligible.
Self-nominations ARE allowed for Correspondent Members, but please note that anyone seeking the Associate Member slot will need to be nominated by a Correspondent Member.
Nominations should be sent by email to firstname.lastname@example.org with your name, organization, and target board position. The deadline for advance nominations is Tuesday, April 27.
And please note: anyone wanting to vote, stand for election, or drink free beer will need to be a member in good standing. Which is really just a polite way of saying you should make sure your Club dues are paid up.
Full details on nomination and election procedures, as well as Board Member duties, can be found in the Club’s Articles of Association.
The Club has worked hard this past year on speaker events, social events, and advocacy for press freedom and other issues of vital concern to professional journalists. But none of this happens automatically and the Club can only be as good as you make it. Please do your best to attend the AGM, and please think about stepping up to a leadership position.
Thanks and best wishes,
The 2010 FCCC Election Committee
